URGENT UPDATE: Supreme court ruling – is motor finance commission being repaid?
4th August 2025
On Friday 1st August, the supreme court gathered to rule on the much anticipated ruling on whether motor finance commission should be repaid, a case which has caused lots of conversation amongst the motor industry and beyond and could have huge implications depending on the direction the hearing goes.
The outcome? One elements of the cases was upheld, while others were overturned, which still leaves a lot of uncertainty across the industry.
What does this mean going forward?
In response to the ruling the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has now announced that it will consult on a scheme to compensate any customers of motor finance who were treated unfairly. This means that they’ll be reviewing who qualifies, what repayments will be issued and how the process will be structured. So not all customers are guaranteed a repayment but some will receive one, likely up to a maximum of £950.
We will have further updates throughout this process and once we have fully digested the ruling and FCA’s stance. We believe that this moment is not just for reaction but for constructive action.
